Nominated as one of the finalists in the pre-commercialized innovations category of the 2022 Sustainability Awards, the Mimica technology was originally inspired by the notion that printed dates are not accessible to people with visual impairments and that a label that changed its texture if the contents were spoiled would be more useful for everybody.

Food waste is responsible for up to 10% of the world’s greenhouse gases

 

Using gel technology much more accurate than a ‘best before’ date we tackle this issue, extending shelf and storage life, it can be used on most perishable products including milk and juices.

SOLVING SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGES

1. Solve Food Wastage

In the UK alone over 9.5 million tonnes of food and drink annually is unnecessarily wasted, costing the average UK household £470 a year. The MIMICA CAP is designed to show the true longevity of the food. You can save more and waste less.

2. Reduce Carbon Footprints

Food wastage is responsible for up to 10% of global carbon emissions. Estimates based on verified data predict increasing the shelf life of perishable food by even 1 day alone could reduce all global greenhouse gas emissions by 0.3-0.4%; this equates to saving over 202.8 million tonnes of greenhouse gases from entering our atmosphere.

There is potential to safely increase shelf life of most perishable foods by at least 2 days.

3. Increasing brand loyalty

Wasting some of a beverage often makes consumers less likely to repurchase it or reduce purchasing frequency. Two thirds of consumers said they would buy larger bottles of juice, if they were able to finish them by the expiry date.


HOW IT WORKS.

Patented gel technology is embedded in the MIMICA TOUCHCAP and activated upon first opening of the beverage. Without any physical contact with beverage contents, It uses time and temperature to accurately measure when the beverage spoils.



By responding to changes in temperatures, the MIMICA CAP will enable you to keep your beverage for longer when stored correctly and reduce waste. Mimica works both ways too, so if the beverage gets too warm for too long, the bumps will appear to warn you not to eat or drink it anymore.
